Yard lighthouses are both decorative and whimsical, transforming your plain, boring lawn into one that appears more colorful and festive. Although you can find yard-sized lighthouses from a garden supply store, they are often costly or require a great deal of construction. Save money and time by making a homemade yard lighthouse using a few basic tools and materials purchased inexpensively from any craft and home improvement store. Add a solar light at the top of the lighthouse, which will glow at night like a real lighthouse.
Video of the Day
Paint the outside of a standard-sized traffic cone using white waterproof latex paint. Allow the paint to dry for four to six hours.
Paint a 2-to-3-inch swirl wrapping around the cone, starting at the bottom and winding to the top of the cone using either black or colored waterproof latex paint. Allow the paint to dry for four to six hours.
Insert a 2-inch-wide acrylic solar light into the top of the cone.
Heat up a hot glue gun for 10 minutes to allow the hot glue stick to melt inside the chamber.
Attach the base of the light onto the inside of the cone using the hot glue. Allow the hot glue to cool and harden for two minutes. The solar light should be sticking out of the top of the lighthouse.
Place the lighthouse in your yard or garden for display. At night, the top of the lighthouse will glow.
